At the 43rd Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival, the Czech Republic will be represented by three films in the official selection. Two Czech projects will take part in the Euro Connection co-production forum, and seven films will be screened at the Short Film Market.
In the International Competition will compete 5 minutes long animated film Washing Machine. A short comedy directed and produced by Czech animator Alexandra Májová is a remarkable parable of human relationships shown in the story of a man who isn’t trying to solve problems with a woman, but with a troublesome home appliance. Washing Machine was screened at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival in the Shorts Animation Competition among other festivals last year.
Another animated film, Leaf, directed by Aliona Baranova of Tomas Bata University in Zlín, takes part in the Young Audience section. A story of a huge sailor who receives a lovely autumn leaf which reminds him of his home, celebrated world premiere last February at the Berlinale in the Generation Kplus section.
The festival also selected Plus One for the European Short Film Audience Award section. A fiction film, directed by Myroslava Klochko of Prague's FAMU, is about happy newlyweds who are expecting a child and suddenly find out that that the child will be special.
Two Czech projects take part of this year's co-production forum Euro Connection - About a Cow and The Tourist. About a Cow is a patchwork of true stories from the life of cows directed by Pavla Baštanová and produced by Mária Môťovská of MAUR film. Slovenian-Czech co-production The Tourist, directed by Lun Sevnik, produced by Rok Biček of Cvinger Film (SI) and co-produced by PINK (CZ), depicts a complicated relationship between teenage boy and his father. Both projects were supported by the Czech Film Fund.
Along with the Slovak Film Institute and the Slovenian Film Center, the Czech Film Fund / Czech Film Center organizes online panel Meet the Central European Filmmakers. Authors with the film in the festival programme or a project at Euro Connection will participate in the discussion on February 1, 2021 at 15:00.
