The fourth edition of Czech and Slovak Film Festival of Australia will be opened today by Jiří Sádek's debut The Noonday Witch. The theme of this year's festival, which primarily presents the most interesting contemporary Czech and Slovak films, is “Text and Texture” concentrating on the literary adaptations in Czech and Slovak cinema.
Czech and Slovak Film Festival of Australia is already a well-established event presenting contemporary Czech and Slovak fiction, documentary and animated films, both feature and short in four Australian cities. The festival start in Melbourne (Sep 14 - 23), then moves to Canberra (Oct 7 - 9), Sydney (Oct 12 - 16) and ends in Perth (Oct 20 - 23).
Australian audience will have a chance to watch the films successful at international festivals as well as the ones scoring big at cinemas in the Czech Republic. The first group will be represented for example by Petr Oukropec's In Your Dreams!, Petr Zelenka's Lost in Munich, Family Film by Olmo Omerzu or Štěpán Altricher's debut Schmitke. From Czech box-office hits will be screened Tiger Theory by Radek Bajgar or Lída Baarová by Filip Renč.
The festival will also screen several newly restored Czech classics such as Three Nuts for Cinderella, Adela Has Not Had Supper Yet or Marketa Lazarova. The selected short films from collection Czech Short Films vol. 7 issued by Czech Film Center will be shown either before the feature films or in one programme.
Czech Film Center as a partner of the festival, both advises on the program and helps with the securing nad transport of the films to Australia.
