Petr Václav's Il Boemo wins six awards at the 30th annual Czech Film and Television Academy (ČFTA) Czech Lion Awards including the main ones for Best Film and Best Director. Arved came in second place, taking home three statuettes, followed by BANGER. with two awards. Art Talent Show by Adéla Komrzý and Tomáš Bojar was voted the best documentary. The evening at Prague's Rudolfinum was not only a celebration of the 30th birthday of the Czech Lion, but of Czech cinema in general.
Il Boemo, a spectacular period biopic inspired by the true story of the Czech 18th century composer Josef Mysliveček, converted six of the eleven Czech Lion nominations. The awards went to Jan Macola (Mimesis Film) for Best Film, Petr Václav for Best Director, as well as to Francesco Liotard and Daniel Němec for Best Sound. Il Boemo also won in the categories of best make-up and hairstyling, costume design and set design.
The makers of the mystery drama Arved by Vojtěch Mašek, winner of the Czech Film Critics' Awards, which was nominated in twelve categories, took home three lion statuettes: for best screenplay, best actor in a leading role, and best music.
The observational documentary film following the talent exams for art college Art Talent Show, directed by Adela Komrzý and Tomáš Bojar and produced by Jakub Wagner (GPO Platform), was voted the best documentary of 2022.
BANGER. by Adam Sedlák, nominated in eight categories, took home the award for Marsell Bendig (Best actor in the supporting role) and the award for Šimon Hájek and Jakub Jelínek (Best film editing). Jan Baset Střítežský was awarded Best cinematography for his work on The Last Race, while the best actress in the supporting role award went to Martha Issová for her role in Buko.
The winner in the animated film category was Suzie in the Garden by Lucie Sunková, produced by MAUR film. Among the short films, the most successful was the fiction short Rites directed by Damián Vondrášek and produced by Martina Netíková (Cinémotif Films), while Vinland by Martin Kuba became the winner of the Magnesia Award for the Best Student Film.
The awards in the television categories went to two Czech Television´s projects: the miniseries Suspicion directed by Michal Blaško (second award for Klára Melíšková in the Best actress in a leading role category) and the series The Nineties by Peter Bebjak.
