The 55th International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR), taking place from January 29 to February 8, 2026, will feature the world premiere of Orla (Czech Republic, Slovakia) by Marie Lukáčová, an eco-feminist rap fairytale, which combines live-action scenes shot on 16mm with 2D and 3D animation. Furthermore, Greetings from Rhodes (Slovakia, Czech Republic) by Viera Čákanyová, will see its world premiere as part of the Short & Mid-length section, and a co-production black comedy The Kidnapping of a President (Finland, Czech Republic, Netherlands, Estonia) by Samuli Valkama, as part of the Limelight program.

The film, produced by Klára Mamojková and Wanda Kaprálová of CLAW films and supported by the Czech Audiovisual Fund, landed in the Tiger Short Competition program, known for spotlighting young and innovative filmmakers.

This selection marks the second time a Czech short film has been included in this prestigious program – the previous entry was Marie-Magdalena Kochová's experimental short 3 MWh, which premiered at Rotterdam in 2024.

Another film to world premiere at IFFR is Greetings from Rhodes by Viera Čákanyová, produced by Matej Sotník for guča films (SK) and Somatic Films (CZ). This satirical take on tourism during the ecological crisis landed in the Short & Mid-length section, a unique showcase of films under 63 minutes.

The last film to world premire at Rotterdam this year is a co-production black comedy The Kidnapping of a President (Finland, Czech Republic, Netherlands, Estonia) by Samuli Valkama. The film, produced by Jakub Košťál and Vratislav Šlajer of Bionaut on the Czech side, is part of the Limelight section.

In addition to world premieres, the program also includes a rich selection of classic Czechoslovak films such as Aimless Walk by Alexander Hackenschmied (Cinema Regained) or recent animated short Wolfie by Philippe Kastner, produced by Tomáš Šimon and Emma Slobodová of FAMU, in the Education section.
