It was a big night for director-producer Václav Marhoul. His epic black and white war drama The Painted Bird scored eight times during the 27th Czech Lion Awards bringing Marhoul two major prizes for Best Film and Best Director, and non-statutary award for an Exceptional Feat In the Area of Audio-visual Arts.

The Painted Bird also received awards for Best Cinematography (Vladimír Smutný), Best Editing (Luděk Hudec), Best Sound (Pavel Rejholec) Best Stage Design (Jan Vlasák) Best Costume Design (Helena Rovná) and Best Makeup and Hairstailing (Ivo Strangmüller).

Best Documentary Feature Award went to Over the Hills, directed by Martin Mareček and produced by Petr Oukropec (Negativ), Tereza Polachová, Hanka Kastelicová (HBO Europe).

An absurde dramedy Owners was honored with 3 prizes on Saturday evening. Jiří Havelka received the prize for Best Screenplay, and actresses Tereza Ramba, Klára Melíšková won Best Actress In a Leading Role and Best Actress In a Supporting Role, respectively.

The male actor prizes went for drama Old-Timers: Jiří Schmitzer (Best Actor In a Leading Role) and Ladislav Mrkvička (Best Actor In a Supporting Role). According to the Czech Film and Television Academy, Best Music was composed by Ivan Acher, Michal Novinski (The Watchmaker's Apprentice).

The Award for Best TV film or Miniseries received Monsters of the Shore, directed by Viktor Tauš and produced by Czech Television. Czech public TV scored once again with the prize for MOST! (Best TV Drama Series), directed by Jan Prušinovský.

With the Honorary Award for Unique Contribution to Czech Film was honored producer Jaromír Kallista, known for his works on Jan Švankmajer's films.

Three non-statutary prizes also belong to the Czech Lion Awards. The Magnesia Award for the Best Student Film received Daria Kashcheeva for her animated short Daughter. Best Film Poster Award went to Roman Mrázek (The Painted Bird) and the Award of a Film Fans belong to Women on the Run.
